An early, rather demure full length portrait of Mistinguett as a sweet, simple country girl. But even under that bonnet and covered up dress you can see the slender torso and long legs that became part of her stage persona. The poster was popular enough to have been done in at least two different color versions, and it appeared in yet a third version on the cover of the sheet music for "You Made Me Love You (I Didn't Want to Do It)." De Losques was the pseudonym of David Thoroude, who studied law and started out as a law firm employee before switching to art. This is one of the many theatrical posters he created, along with magazine illustrations and caricatures during the period 1904 - 1914. His career was cut short by his death in WWI. | ||
