Benda is the pseudonym of a painter and graphic artist who resided in Paris a good many years, as there are records of his having exhibited paintings in various salons between 1907 and 1921. He produced only a handful of posters, with this Mistinguett design being especially memorable. Catching her in this whirling moment breezily communicates that she was a breath of fresh air, a fact to which all of those who were fortunate enough to see her perform will agree.
