| This poster was created a year before Mucha's
design for the same beer company. Both the Mucha poster and this one
include the firm's logo, a cameo representing the goddess of the Meuse
River; and in both, the figure, an enchanting beauty bedecked with
poppies and barley stalks to represent the region and the product. A decorator, painter and designer, the Swiss artist Bastard worked in many media, including furniture, painting, rugs and books. |
