Villemot's death in 1989 left a real void in French poster art; for over 30 years, he had been the finest French posterist, unsurpassed at setting the right mood with just a few simple lines and bold colors. This travel poster for the Côte Basque on France's Atlantic coast looks as if he just knocked it off in an hour or so. However, if you are Bernard Villemot, that's all you need to portray an inviting beach, hills and golf course in a few fresh, easy sweeps of blue, green, red and yellow.
